May
1943 witnessed one of the most daring and dramatic raids mounted
by Bomber Command in the six years of World War Two when a small
force of Avro Lancasters of No 617 Squadron attacked German dams
in the industrial region of the Ruhr.
Losses were high but the results of the attack were impressive,
not least in the positive effect it had on the morale of the British
people.
During the six years of the War, Bomber Command casualties amounted
to a staggering 55,000 aircrew, but the contribution made to the
war effort by these nightly attacks on Germany was highly significant.
Whilst this FlyPast special is being published to mark the 60th
anniversary of the Dams Raid, it also looks at Bomber Command's
war in general. Another collectable publication from Key's Classic
Aircraft Series, this special also includes the following:
- The
Bomber Groups and their airfields - in particular Yorkshire, Lincolnshire
and East Anglia home to thousands of bombers
- Bomber

- Collecting
Bomber Command memorabilia
- The
Dams Raid

and awards, including details or VC winners and how to collect
